My home

a knitted cushion kit from wool and the gang

I haven’t crafted in sometime which is a shame as it really does relax me. I think the reason why I’ve paused on my craftiness is that I was crafting with no purpose, resulting in creating pointless clutter. Now that I’m embracing the art of minimalism and conscious design, I find it hard to craft for the sake of it. However Wool and the Gang have made a craft kit that I’ve fully embraced, knit your own cushion kit! AND I am in need of some nice cushions so it’s a perfect craft project for my home decor.

What you get in the kit –

  • 2 x 200g balls of WATG’s Crazy Sexy Wool
  • 1 x 40cm x 60cm rectangle of woven Billie Jean fabric (optional)
  • 1 x Sewing needle

If you don’t have chunky 15mm knitting needles then you just need to select them on the site and they will add it to your order.

I can only usually knit rectangles with the standard knit stitch, so I thought that a cushion would be a relatively easy task (hmmm). But sometimes I like a challenge and to learn something new so I chose the reoccuring dream cushion with a herringbone knit. In all honesty I was pretty bad when I first attempted this fancy herringbone knit. I created holes and extra loops, who knows what I was doing! I ended up unraveling my work and starting again, this time carefully watching the video tutorials

Here’s the result! I’m so happy with it! Knitting this cushion was a perfect distraction from my constant use of the laptop and phone. I’m tempted to make another one but (to settle my new found minimalist paranoia) I can only do so  once I’ve decided where the next cushion shall live.

Ahhh you are so clever to be able to knit like this! It’s a craft I’ve been wanting to take up for some time, but clearly not enough as I haven’t actually bought any materials/tools watched any tutorials. This is lovely though – I would definitely pay for that cushion cover you’ve made as I’d love it on my sofa.. perhaps it’s time to give it a go!
