With so many trade shows to visit each year, high up on my agenda is the Stockholm Furniture fair. As Scandinavia’s largest furniture fair it is vast with furniture for the home, contract furniture, new designers and lighting. Armed with my camera I battled the crowds taking pictures of almost everything. Here I’ve selected some of my highlights from the Stockholm furniture fair 2017.

STRING

Each time I’ve visited the fair (which has only been a few times) String furniture have had an impressive display, artfully styled by the talented Lotta Agaton. This white on white display gives inspiration on the capacities of String shelving. String shelving can be used in multiple ways from storage, display, kitchens, bathrooms and work spaces.

MENU

Modernism Reimagined was a campaign originally launched in 2016 designing pieces inspired by the principles of Danish modernism. Now for 2017 Menu have designed even more stunning products. What caught my attention and I’ve become increasingly drawn to, were marble plinths or side tables. Plinths, yes those you imagine in museums are entering the home and I want one.

This stunning display with the new Septembre sofa and coffee table, Harrison chandelier, Darkly mirror and marble plinth became a focus for many to stand and stare.

FRIENDS & FOUNDERS

Fragments by Friends & Founders, a Danish design studio based in North of Copenhagen, is an inspiring collection of precious objects in a minimalist style. Products designed for the home and the contracts market. Here are a few shots (and one with a photographer who jumped into my shot at the perfect time) and you must see their catalogue as the styling is breathtaking. I’m quite taken with the hangers and marble side tables.

NEW WORKS

Minimalism was a reoccurring theme and one I’m happy to seek out. New Works, objects of Copenhagen, launched this beautifully minimal Aura table mirror which will be available in March 2017.  Made from polished metal is picks up light from every angle. A luxurious piece.

NELIKKO

I may need to write an entire blog post on the Greenhouse part of the furniture fair. This is where emerging designers and universities exhibit. My top pick from this hall was NELIKKO, a Finnish meaning for quartet, which is a collective of four Helsinki based designers. I actually loved every piece that they exhibited and a blog post on this group will be on its way. In the foreground is a close up of the Aino Mirrors by Studio Kaksikko and painting in the background by textile artist Reeta Ek. A very exciting group of designers that I’m so happy to have discovered.

PHOLC

Back to the established brands, Swedish lighting company Pholc won Elle Decoration’s lamp of the year 2017 with this unique Mobil lamp. Designed by Monika Mulder the Mobil lamp was inspired by New York “Give me a lamp that will look great in a New York Loft”, oh it would, and my house too!

SKAGERAK

A striking display designed by Depping & Jørgensen (who designed the Turn Stool),  this Skagerak stand was an inviting place which became increasingly curious to walk around. It looked so simple and stylish with clean minimalism but still contained so much! Who would have thought that using designers for exhibition stands would actually make for the perfect spatial planning. Genius. Among this simplicity, Skagerak had launched the new Hven armchair and tables by Swedish designer Anton Björsing.

Wonderful Indskud oak side tables that lift off the legs to become trays.

Terracotta and burt reds are a hot favourite for interior accessories right now. These Edge vases designed by Stilleben are a simple Nordic expression of Greek-Egyptian traditional craftsmanship.

FREDERICIA

A design house of Danish heritage, Fredericia is proud of its collaborations and design principles. When a new item is added to the Fredericia name you can be certain that it will become a modern classic. At the fair they launched the new Barbry Stool designed by Aurélien Barbry. This design is  made of black lacquered flat iron with a wooden seat. The heights can be adjusted by removing various sections of the structure.

The Spanish Chairdesigned by Børge Mogensen, oh what a stylish classic. I admit, I took a few minutes from the epic furniture fair to rest in this seat, it was surprisingly comfortable!

MUUTO

This new Workshop chair designed by Cecilie Manz for Muuto is so cute! It’s described as an honest chair with few but right details. Meaning it is a simple structure but the joints, edges and grains of wood all emphasise the quality of craftsmanship.

FERM LIVING

Scenes of splendour. This Spring/Summer Ferm Living have embraced the decadence of the bygone era and combined it with their signature nordic simplicity. Warm tones and plenty of colour.

I’m pretty obsessed with this grey frame pin board. These designs feel very mid-century modern and luxurious. SO cool.

NOTE DESIGN STUDIO

An installation designed by Note Design Studio where they created a working restaurant/bar for the fair. Filled with bold colours, geometric shapes, natural woods and carpet. This design bar brightened up the hall and showed that Scandinavians are not afraid of colour!

I thoroughly enjoyed the Stockholm furniture fair 2017 and hope you have become inspired too. There’s always so much to see and capture, including the incredible Trends Exhibition by Lotta Agaton  and thousands of other exhibitors, that it’s sometimes hard to narrow it down. I expect to be talking about this for a while!
