How things can change in a year…….At the start of 2017 I didn’t think I was ready for change, “maybe in a year or two” I’d say, still not knowing what I the change will actually be. I’ve enjoyed seeing my friends happily move to the suburbs, having babies and buying homes. But wasn’t certain that it was something I wanted to do. We thought to spend the year enjoying work, travel and figure it out later.
So we did. We travelled and worked, basically flying to Scandinavia every month or so. I reviewed design hotels, explored Stockholm and Copenhagen more and attended some incredible press events. It’s been crazy busy and amazingly inspirational. Then it happened! We had the opportunity to make a big change in our lives, no babies or mortgages, Stephen was offered a great job in Copenhagen, so we chose to spend our money on relocating to Denmark.
Some people have asked ‘why?‘. A question I thought so strange as it’s obvious how incredible Copenhagen is. But I’ve come to understand the question a little better. I doesn’t come from a negative place like “why would you want to?”, it’s actually a question of intrigue and practicality. For example, is there a specific job I’m moving for or direct reason for the big move? My answer is a mix of everything. Work, love for the city, a need for change, a change of pace and a place to improve my health. In London, I had been struggling to balance lifestyle, work and health and only wanting to spend my time in Scandinavia. So moving to Copenhagen makes perfect sense to me.
The city and especially the people have welcomed me with open arms. I’m so incredibly thankful it’s hard to put into words. I instantly feel at home here and am excited to see where this journey will take me. Work will continue here and in the pursuit of learning more about Scandinavian design, culture and developing my interior styling. I now have the chance to live and breathe Scandinavian culture and learn so much more about the design world that I love. A dream come true and still sometimes hard to believe that I actually live in Denmark! Less stress, more rest, more creativity and just seeing where this crazy journey will take me.
I’ve put together a small selection of pictures from my year. Essentially to help remind me of what I did and where I’ve been. It’s important to look back and be thankful.
