Now we’re in August it’s horrible to think that summer is fading. My garden has been such a joy to sit in this summer. Though I’m the kind of person that will sit out in the cold under a blanket, so I expect plenty more enjoyable evenings in the garden to come, right through into Autumn.

I had previously mentioned my somewhat strange garden set up and initial ideas. Where my main garden is at the front of the house. There were various plans I’d drawn up but I wanted nothing complex, purely garden simplicity. Keeping garden design simple much like my home. To be honest there was little overthinking. Benches, bistro table and chairs, an area to lounge, some planters.

The items I had chosen were freestanding and easy to move. I can rearrange as much as I’d like as I do like to play around with spatial design (other than the planters, they’re staying in their place until we leave the property). A very flexible set up.

I’m looking forward to hosting dinner outside and extending the table. This works perfectly for me and the boyfriend and can be folded away. (Picnic table designed by Herman Studio for Skagerak).

I bought two wooden planters online and painted them black. They have figs, herbs and grasses. There WERE flowers but Morticia Adams has nothing on me, I kill flowers instantly, without trying. Though lavender I can grow. 

I’ve grown so many tomatoes this year and now the plant is looking a little tired (a few more to harvest though)

Later when we realised the sun kept on coming, we needed shade,(no sun seeker here). This is where I think I’ve messed up. I didn’t realise how much shade I really needed, so I will be looking to invest in a much better parasol next year. This one was a compromise and I should have known better. It kinda works for now, it’s not all bad.

I painted my old ikea lounge chairs to match with the black furniture and planters.

I really enjoy this little space and it does the job of making the front garden a lot more welcoming.
